There was a discussion and vote about a group trip to 2 GPAA claims in Wyoming in August of 2012 at the November meeting. Tentative dates were set for August 5-18th. Due to travel time and work schedules, Madonna and Ron White will be on site Aug 8-18th.  Each party attending would be responsible for his/her own lodging, travel, food etc. The two claims we will be working are the Big Nose Kate and Yela Fever (see your GPAA claim book for directions and information.) They are both located in Medicine Bow National Forest. There are camping areas near the claims, but they are primative, no outhouses, no shelters. You must be self contained to stay in this area. There is a KOA in Laramie, WY, about an hour away. Anyone who is planing on attending, do your research and come prepared to discuss options at the spring 2012 meetings. Per GPAA guidelines, an active GPAA member may take 4 guests onto a GPAA claim, but those guests are limited to "panning only."  So, if you want to go on this trip and do anything other than panning, you need to have an active membership in GPAA. If you are going to get an active membership, remember to tell them you belong to the Iowa Chapter. Additionally, you will need to obtain mining permits from the state of Wyoming. Further discussion, information and planning will take place at the March and April 2012 meetings.
